The Challenge

In a rapidly changing world, the skills our soldiers need to protect our national security and the skills they need to succeed when they transition out of the military are constantly evolving. Given the size and caliber of our Army, investment in skills can help to build a pipeline of talent to fill larger workforce shortages.

The Army enlisted Deloitte to develop ignited, an agency-wide program established by ACCESS, ArmyU and promoted by the Sergeant Major of the Army in 2019, to replace the existing outdated platform. To support this priority, our team developed a flexible and mobile solution built around the needs and lives of soldiers, enabling them to obtain marketable skills without the need to go through a traditional four-year college—although that option is still available to them.

Branding

“The U.S. Army is an institution founded on values and a bedrock of trust between it and the American people it serves. The U.S. Army Soldier is professional, trained, disciplined and reflects the best of the country he or she serves.”

The Modern GoArmyEd visual identity is structured and modern with an official feel. It has a clean and simple aesthetic. It is vibrant and contemporary while staying grounded in Army heritage and relevant to its large and diverse audience.

Moreover, the visual identity is designed with the focus of supporting the objectives of Modern GoArmyEd, which are to enable its userbase to effectively and efficiently access and utilize Tuition and Credentialing Assistance.

Design System

As project grew so did our team, therefore we felt the need for a system to help increase the pace of creation, innovation and coordination within the team members. We created and utilized an extensive, sharable component library in our co-design environment.

We then accompanied the assets with standards and documentation that would help the team to understand not only the what but the why and how to use the system and make it easier and clearer to discern. We adopted Brad Frost’s Atomic Design methodology to bring logic and structure to our screens.
